Creole Hamburg Pie

Brown 1 lb ground beef in 1/4 cup fat or shortening

Stir in:

  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups tomato juice
  • 1 cup sliced celery
  • 1/2 cup sliced onion
  • 1/4 cup diced green pepper

Bring to boil. Pour into 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Cover with pastry topping, folding pastry under and flute inside edge of of dish.

Bake 30 – 45 minutes.

Pastry Topping:

  • 1 cup sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Mix and cut in 1/3 cup shortening

Sprinkle with 2 Tbsp water; mix with folk. Roll out on lightly floured board into a circle to fit top of baking dish.

Cut slits near center.
