Prune Spice Cake

Cream well:

  • 1 cup oleo or butter
  • 1 1/3 cup sugar

Add 3 eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each addition.

Combine:

  • 1/2 tsp soda in
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Add alternately with:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

Add:

  • 1 cup stewed, chopped prunes
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Bake in 3 layers at 350°.

Filling:

1/4 lb oleo or butter, creamed till soft.

Work in:

  • 1 lb powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp cocoa,

alternately with enough prune juice to soften filling to spreading thickness

Add:

  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup nuts
