- 1 stick oleo
- 1 cup shortening, room temperature, creamed
Add 2 1/2 cups sugar, sifted 3 times, creaming well
Add 4 whole eggs, room temperature, 1 at a time, beat in well.
In measuring cup, put
- 1/2 tsp soda
- 1 Tbsp hot water, stirring till dissolved
Add to 1 1/4 cup buttermilk and let stand a few minutes
To 3 1/2 cups plain flour, sifted 3 times add 1/2 tsp salt; adding alternately with the buttermilk mixture to the creamed mixture; creaming well after each addition.
Add 1 Tbsp lemon extract.
Bake at 325° for 1 hour 15 minutes.
