Strawberry Jam Cake

Start Icing to cooking on low, low heat while preparing cake

ICING:

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 2 cups sweet milk, cooked on low, low, fire till forms good ball. Remove from fire and add
  • 1 tsp vanilla

By this time, cake is done and ready to spread.

CAKE:

Cream well together

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar

Add:

  • 6 egg YOLKS, 1 at a time, beating well
  • 1 cup buttermilk with 2 tsp soda in it

Stir well and add

  • 1 cup ground white raisins
  • 2 cups strawberry preserves
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 3 cups flour

Fold in 6 well beaten egg WHITES.

Bake in 4 layer pans 30 – 45 minutes at 350°.
