German Chocolate Cake

Mrs. Sam Bass

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup shortening, creamed
  • 4 eggs, separated, using YOLKS now
  • 1 bar (1/4 lb) German chocolate melted in 1/2 cup boiling water

Add:

  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Alternating with:

  • 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt, beating well

Add in 4 egg WHITES, stiffly beaten

Bake in 3 greased, floured pans at 350° for 30 minutes

ICING:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup Pet milk
  • 1 stick oleo
  • 3 beaten egg YOLKS

Cook until thick enough to spread

Add:

  • 1 can coconut (Angel Flake)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Frost cake.
